Japanese Dish Soap Labels Explained: 除菌, 泡スプレー & 食洗機専用
Japan has a surprising number of “ways to wash a plate.” Bottle detergent, clear-disinfecting versions, sprays, dishwasher powder… the label really matters.
Japanese dish soap is not one category: hand wash, spray and dishwasher products are different.
Kao's Kyukyutto line currently includes regular hand-wash detergents, clear/disinfecting variants, spray products and dishwasher-only products.
Three words that prevent mistakes
除菌 indicates a disinfecting/antibacterial-use claim under the product's instructions. 泡スプレー refers to foam-spray formats. 食洗機専用 means dishwasher-only — not hand dishwashing liquid.
Follow the exact contact time and method on the product.
Spray products have different usage from bottle detergent.
Use only in compatible dishwashers, not as normal hand soap.
Before buying Japanese dish detergent, identify hand wash / spray / dishwasher. The bottle family can share branding while the use method changes completely.
