Forwarding sounds technical until you picture it as a little Japanese address that collects your shopping before one bigger trip overseas. That's the easiest way I explain it.
Shop in Japan → send to your Japan address → combine → ship overseas.
Rakuten Global Express is Rakuten's official forwarding service and can consolidate purchases from multiple supported Japanese online stores.
How the service works
Rakuten Global Express gives users a personal forwarding address in Japan. Purchases arrive at the warehouse, can be grouped, and are then shipped internationally using the chosen service.
Use the personal RGX shopping address.
Rakuten says multiple parcels can be combined without an extra consolidation fee.
All three are on the current destination-country list.
Rakuten Global Express is useful when a Japanese shop ships domestically but not to your country, or when several small purchases make more sense as one international parcel.
It is not limited to Rakuten Ichiba
Rakuten says the forwarding address can also be used at other Japanese online stores, though individual shops may reject overseas-issued credit cards or certain addresses.
Important limitation: auctions and flea markets
Rakuten Global Express's current online-shop guidance says items purchased from auctions and flea markets are not accepted for this service.
Current shipping options
Rakuten describes four broad methods: Super Express, Standard Express, Economy Air and Surface, with availability and conditions varying by country and current logistics situation.
Consolidation is most satisfying when the items are small and compatible. I would not automatically combine a fragile cup, aerosol beauty product and giant appliance just because the button says “combine.”
