If a product still makes sense after all seven questions, you have a much stronger reason to import it than “Japan has the cooler version.”

1. Do I know the exact model?
Model number, JAN, capacity, color, generation and current official page. If the identity is fuzzy, stop here.
2. What do I gain by buying the Japan version?
A real Japan-only feature, color, specification, price advantage or product availability should justify the extra complexity.
3. Is it compatible where I live?
For appliances: voltage/frequency. For baby gear: standards, vehicle fit and parts. For beauty/food: ingredients, labels and import rules.
4. Can I buy consumables and replacement parts later?
Filters, refills, valves, batteries, lids and accessories can matter more than the initial purchase.
5. What happens to warranty and repair?
Some Japanese domestic products lose warranty or after-sales support when used overseas.
6. Can the exact item actually be shipped?
Check dangerous-goods rules, food restrictions, parcel dimensions and destination limits.
7. What is the true delivered cost?
Japan item price + domestic Japan shipping + proxy / forwarding fees + international shipping + tax / duty + payment / handling costs + expected support risk
I still love the emotional reason — “I just really want the Japan one.” That's allowed! I just want the practical costs to be visible before you make that choice.
